I am finding that working with layers is a little confusing. I have trouble remembering which ones are the top layers and which are the bottom.
It also seems like I go from one layer to another without realizing which layer I'm on. So sometimes I put something on a layer and wonder why
it's not doing what I want it to. For this Project I put the photo and the purple background on the bottom layer. On the middle layer I made the pink matt to crop the picture. I am having a terrible time trying to figure out how to crop in Illustrator, so I just mainly cover things up with rectangles. On the middle layer I also put the swirls because I wanted them under the arrows and signs. For the top layer I made an arrow using the pen tool and then used the arrange button to put the signs under them. This project reminded me of digital scrapbooking. Adobe Elements actually seems better for scrapbooking than Illustrator. I know how to crop in Elements and that is big aspect of scrapbooking.
